Hotburo case study: branding VOWOL, a Web3 NFT project on Solana — new naming, soft lettering, a flower-based identity, merch and a landing page.
VOWOL is a Web3 project on the Solana blockchain we worked on in 2022, at the height of the NFT boom. The concept was a virtual world where NFT holders become part of a community and get access to a digital space to interact. It combined an NFT collection, its own universe and a members’ community in which every character is part of a bigger story.
- Client: VOWOL, an NFT project on Solana
- Year: 2022
- What we did: naming, logo, identity and guidelines, graphic elements, merch, social media, landing page
- Status: the project never fully launched — shown as a concept
Naming: why we changed the name
The client came with a different name. We explored several logo directions and even approved a final one, testing it in colours, digital media and merch. But it became clear the name was too complex, had unwanted associations and wasn’t memorable enough.
The new name, VOWOL, is short, rhythmic and has no fixed meaning. That let us build a world around it and make the brand more versatile.

Identity: a digital village and a flower
At the core is a digital village where the collection’s characters live: they meet, travel, have coffee, chat and form a community together. The world had to feel friendly, diverse and alive.

That’s why the key graphic element became a little flower. It sits in the logo, works as a pattern and appears on merch, social media and digital materials — one simple element that ties every touchpoint into a system.
For the logo we chose soft, fluid lettering that conveys a light, friendly character and pairs naturally with the character style.

A palette for diverse characters
The base is warm brown and light beige for a calm background, plus three bright accent colours across the brand. The characters had different skin tones, clothes and accessories, so a neutral base made those details pop while keeping the system consistent.
We delivered the logo, full identity and usage guidelines, a system of graphic elements, merch, social media design, a landing page and digital materials — the brand was ready for the ecosystem to grow.

The result
VOWOL got a coherent visual system that scales across media and helps build a recognisable world. Although the project never fully launched, it remains one of our most interesting Web3 experiences — a time when every collection wanted to become a whole world with its own story, characters and community.

FAQ
Why does naming matter for an NFT project?
The name has to be easy to remember and repeat within the community. A complex name with unwanted associations slows recognition — so we proposed the short, rhythmic VOWOL.
